—  Our Philosophy

Our designs introduce fundamental concepts for us: geometry, grid, light, simplicity, and experience. That is what we want to achieve through our architecture. We want to tell a story. We want you to feel what we have created.

The principles that guide our work are rooted in deep thinking about design and the relationship it has with the people. We have basic design strategies and issues we like to use; geometry and grid, light, simplicity, and experience. In every contemporary piece of architecture, these types of issues encompass the whole aspect of designing; how we design for others, how we design for our city. Modern architecture provides us with an optimistic view of contemporary life, while complementing its context with the exploration of these important values. With these basic issues in mind we strive to create works of beauty and elegance that enhance any environment. We also believe that less, is more. A famous quote by admired architect Mies van der Rohe.

Geometry + Grid: The beautiful aspects of proportion and scale in architecture and design are fundamental aspects of our work. In all our approaches to the different projects, we create a rational organization of the building components based on geometric proportioning. We develop our projects by first thinking about a grid. To us, a project without a grid is nothing. We base this grid on the scale of the human body and then think about how common building materials can be organized to produce the experience we want to create. This will give us the basic elements to start designing, with basic rhythms and basic proportions in mind to begin creating volumes and spaces for human connection and interaction.

Light: To us, natural light is also a fundamental element in our designs. It is a central piece to all our work because light acts as a building material. It can enhance a room, it can enhance an experience, and enhances how the person feels when arriving to the space. Light is manipulated to shape space, to create a sense of spirit, to mark the passage of time and for people to be able to see the beautiful sky outside. All these elements that encompass light create a rich architectural experience.

Simplicity: Every project we create is unique in its own way, but simple in its own way as well. Regardless of the site, program, budget, etc… Every project will have a sense of harmony, peace and tranquility that can only be achieved through simplicity. To design with “simplicity” is a word that gets thrown around quite often. However, here at Ambito, we believe that simplicity is more than doing the basic. For us, simplicity in architecture means going above and beyond to create a beautiful experience in the spaces through the use of light, materials, geometry and volumes, rather than ornamentation that is not needed. Simplicity is better than elaborate embellishment; Sometimes something simple is better than something advanced or complicated. We believe that to achieve simplicity, you must design thinking about how the project can speak for itself, and not have its materials talk for you. That’s why all our designs are white and pure, so the architecture and the spaces can speak for themselves, and to bring back the idea that less is more.

Experience: What is architecture, if it isn’t about the experience? How do you feel when you arrive at a space? What elements do you meet when you arrive at a space? What is the experience you get by walking through two walls together? What are the feelings that the person is feeling? Those are the types of questions we always ask ourselves when thinking about a design. Always putting ourselves in the clients’ shoes and understanding their needs. But more importantly, understanding what we want them to feel. Through architecture, you can make a person feel anything. And that is what we achieve to answer with our designs. The feeling of peace, tranquility, order and balance.
